Literacy- Key texts
|
We will:
● enjoy the story The Elephant’s Umbrella by Laleh Jaffari and the non-fiction book Lions (National Geographic).
● write simple sentences using words from the texts.
● write facts about lions and have a go at our first riddle.Phonics
We will continue with our ‘Sounds-write’ programme using the following sounds:
● Unit 10: CCVCC (e.g plant), CVCCC (e.g. hands), and CCCVC (e.g. split)
● Unit 11: with digraphs, sh, ch, and th (both pronunciations e.g thing an them) |
Maths

We will:
● explore symmetrical patterns and link these to doubles.
● build confidence with counting and recognising numbers within 10, and counting beyond 20.
● explore odd and even numbers and what they look like.
● link even numbers to doubles.
● explore how numbers within 10 are made up.
● describe and sort 2D and 3D shapes, and recognise, complete and create patterns. |
Understanding the World
|
We will:
● learn about lion habitats and compare hot and cold climates with where we live.
● explore seasonal changes from Winter to Spring.
● learn about the festivals of Eid, Easter and Holi and how people celebrate them. |
Expressive Art and Design
|
We will:
● explore still life art inspired by Paul Cézanne and create our own still life arrangements using everyday objects.
● use cameras to photograph our creations and paint our still life pictures.
● explore a classic watercolour technique by painting on damp paper.
● sketch animals that live in hot countries over our beautiful backgrounds. |
Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We will:
● show compassion for all creatures.

● express feelings and use the zones to find a strategy to help.
Physical Development
We will:
● continue to develop gross motor skills: rolling, crawling, jumping, hopping, climbing and skipping.
● continue to develop fine motor skills, including pencil and scissor control – please practise cutting correctly at home. (We can provide children’s scissors if needed.)
● continue to practise independent dressing skills: zips, buttons and putting on/pulling off jumpers. |
